Become a
US Soccer Referee
CVSRA provides and hosts two opportunities to become a certified soccer referee throughout the year, during our summer and winter cycles.
Our training program is the best in the Mid-Atlantic area, and our model has a very high success rate on getting prospective referee candidates through the process and onto the fields as certified officials.
The Summer Cycle is July/August. During the month of July, we host via Zoom “New” Referee Introductory sessions. We have 3 sessions in July and we also offer an “early bird” session in late June. The Zoom session is 90 minutes.
After attending the Intro Zoom, you will take a series of on-line courses, quizzes, and tests. The on-line course work takes approximately 6-8 hours.
During the month of August, we host in Glen Allen two Saturdays of Field Training Events (FTEs), which is the last step in order to get fully certified. We also host a Sunday FTE in the Fredericksburg area. The FTE is a combination of instruction on inspecting the field, referee movement during the game, referee positioning during the game during both dynamic play and set plays. It concludes with all new referees rotating through the referee positions during an actual scrimmage with two of our local teams. The FTE is 4 hours.
The Winter Cycle is January/February. During the month of January, we host via Zoom “New” Referee Introductory sessions. We have 3 sessions in January and we also offer an “early bird” session in mid-December. The Zoom session is 90 minutes.
